Southbank Theatre is the home venue of Melbourne Theatre Company, Victoria's primary state theatre company. It contains 2 theatre spaces, the Sumner and the Lawler, as well as function rooms, foyers and extensive backstage facilities.

The Southbank Theatre ticketing systems allow patrons to specify access requirements at point of purchase.

Southbank Theatre has 2 main entrances: on Southbank Boulevard and Dodds Street. The entrances are well-lit and have handrails with all sets of steps.

There is a designated automatic access entrance from Southbank Boulevard which can be used to access the venue without using steps. There are barrier-free pathways through all public spaces in the venue.

Facilities for wheelchair access and seating that allows more room for the use of mobility aids are available in all theatres, for all performances (subject to availability).

Tickets for these seats can be booked online or via the Southbank Theatre box office. When booking online, please look out for the seats marked with ‘Wheelchair’ and ‘Level Access / Limited Steps’ icons. When booking these seats, you will have the opportunity to describe the type of access you require, so we can ensure your specific needs are accommodated.

At Southbank Theatre, wheelchair access is via the front entrance on Southbank Boulevard. The foyers within Southbank Theatre offer tables and chairs at wheelchair height and Southbank Theatre also has a low bar service area. Southbank Theatre has lifts to all levels.

There are currently no quiet/sensory friendly spaces at Southbank Theatre.

Limited on-street parking available. Dodds Street, which is located next to Southbank Theatre and can be entered via Grant Street, has four accessible car spaces. On-street parking around Southbank is limited, with 3-hour limits in place in many areas.

Accessible car spaces at all major car parks throughout the Melbourne Arts Precinct, including the the Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park and the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre Car Park.

There is a drop-off zone at the corner of Southbank Boulevard and Dodds St for taxi, rideshare and wheelchair drop off.

Tram: Routes 3, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, 72 - Stop 13 (Flinders Street Station). Approximately 350m walk. This tram stop is wheelchair accessible, but please note low-floor accessible trams are only available on Routes 5, 6, 16, 72.

Route 1 - Stop 17 (Arts Precinct, Sturt Street). Approximately 10m walk. Route 1 tram is not wheelchair accessible.

Train: Flinders Street Station. Approximately 1.1km walk.

Bus: Route 605 (Stop Kavanagh St/Southbank Boulevard). Approximately 250m walk.

There are paved, level pathways from all carpark and public transport locations.
