"Big Esso" is a Torres Strait expression meaning, "the biggest thank you," used to show deep gratitude. When combined with "Mabu Mabu," it signals the start of a celebration. We’re proud to bring Indigenous food and culture back to the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra), once a vibrant hunting and ceremonial space. At Big Esso, we invite you to gather at communal tables, enjoy music from blak artists, sip drinks from Indigenous-owned businesses, and share stories with friends and strangers. It’s a place to connect, celebrate, and honour the past through food and culture.
