Deadly Narratives

Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT)

Story-telling in all forms is crucial to sharing and understanding historic and popular culture. Deadly Narratives brings together Victorian stories represented by five years of art acquisitions to the KHT Collection, and celebrates the KHT’s fifth year located at Federation Square.

Deadly narratives are told through a range of media including acrylic on canvas and board, prints, ceramics, textile, pokerwork possum skin, weaving and jewellery.

The exhibition will showcase the unique and important place the Koorie Heritage Trust Collection holds in Victoria and nation-wide. These key acquisitions reflect a strong and vibrant culture in the south east of Australia, a thriving culture and connection to country and a considerable breadth and style in works.

Holding the only collection solely dedicated to Koorie cultural heritage in Victoria with over 65,000 items relating to South-Eastern Australian Aboriginal communities, including oral histories, photographic archives, a reference library, and over 3900 historic and contemporary artworks and objects. These collections support, promote and celebrate the resilience, strength and beauty of the Aboriginal people and communities of South-Eastern Australia.
